Vornado Air Recalls SRTH Small Room Tower Heaters Due to Fire Hazard

Vornado has recalled its SRTH Small Room Tower Heater because the fan blade can detach from the motor shaft, causing the unit to overheat, melt, and potentially catch fire. If the heater's built-in thermal cut-off or fuse doesn't activate in time, the fire can breach the outer casing.

What is recalled

Vornado SRTH Small Room Tower Heater (model type "TYPE SRTH," printed on the silver rating label on the bottom of the unit). Sold in black and white. Measures about 12.5 inches high by 6 inches in diameter. Has two heat settings (low and high) plus a fan-only setting. "Vornado" with a "V" logo appears on the front of the unit.

You're affected if you own a Vornado tower heater with "TYPE SRTH" printed on the silver rating label on the bottom of the unit. Flip the heater over and check that label. If it reads "TYPE SRTH," stop using it immediately.

The hazard

The recalled heater's fan blade can detach from the motor shaft, which can cause the fan to slow or stop, leading to overheating and melting of the enclosure and internal parts. Melted internal parts can ignite and breach the enclosure if the thermal cut off or fuse does not timely activate, posing a fire hazard.
