Maitys magnetic drinkware charms are being recalled because their loose magnets are a serious swallowing hazard for children. If a child swallows more than one magnet, they can attract each other inside the body, tearing or blocking the intestines, which can be fatal.

What is recalled
Maitys Drinkware Charms, sold in sets of 400 multicolored charms with magnetic backings, used to attach to glass drinkware. "Maitys" is printed on the front of the product box. Sold on Amazon.

You're affected if you own a set of Maitys drinkware charms, look for the "Maitys" name printed on the front of the charm box. These were sold in 400-piece multicolored sets with magnetic backings on Amazon.
What to do right now

The hazard
The recalled magnetic drinkware charms violate the mandatory standard for magnets because they contain loose magnets posing an ingestion hazard to children. When high-powered magnets are swallowed, the ingested magnets can attract each other, or other metal objects, and become lodged in the digestive system. This can result in perforations, twisting, and/or blockage of the intestines, blood poisoning and death.
