BenQ America Recalls GV31 Portable Projectors Due to Risk of Serious Injury or Death from Fire and Burn Hazards

BenQ has recalled its GV31 portable projector because the built-in lithium-ion battery can overheat, creating a serious risk of fire and burns that could cause injury or death.

What is recalled
BenQ GV31 Portable Projector. White, circular design, approximately 5.2 inches by 8 inches by 7.5 inches, weighing about 3.7 pounds. Powered by a rechargeable lithium-ion battery. Sits on a gray base with a built-in speaker, carrying strap, lens, and control buttons on top. Shipped with a remote control. The brand name and model number (GV31) are printed on the label on the underside of the gray base.
Am I affected
You're affected if you own a BenQ portable projector with model number GV31. Flip the projector over and check the label on the underside of the gray base. If it reads "GV31," stop using it immediately.
What to do right now
Stop using the projector immediately. Contact BenQ for a free battery repair or a replacement projector, including free shipping. Register at https://www.benq.com/en-us/support/gv31recall.html to receive a prepaid label and packaging to return the product. Do not throw the projector or its battery in the trash, curbside recycling bins, or used-battery drop boxes at retail or home improvement stores. If you need to dispose of it before a replacement arrives, contact your local municipal household hazardous waste (HHW) collection center first to confirm they accept recalled lithium-ion batteries.
